Concept Development

Recently we have been developing the concepts of time, distance, memory, and space at Greenhithe. I have in particular been focusing on memory and developing the concept of 'incomplete memories'. The idea came from the old train tracks that run across my site which are abruptly cut off but clearly used to stretch out much further across the river than they do now.

I have also been looking at the work of UNMASK group, three artists who create sculptures that are incomplete in some way. Their series entitle 'Flash Memory' is particularly relevant to my concept.

Greenhithe Project 1 - Background

As an introduction the Greenhithe, our venue for term 1, we were tasked to record several horizons - below are a few of my sketches, around 20 mins for each one. General feedback was fine but in future my drawings must have much more annotation.

Greenhithe Project 2 - Foreground

The aim of this task was to make engage us with the foreground of Greenhithe, and to make us use different methods to record and observe. We were tasked to photograph 5 objects within the same colour range, and choose several objects we found, that could all relate to a narrative using the concept of juxtaposition.

These objects tell the story of "Tony", a rather unlucky chap who worked in the docks, but ended up at the bottom of the Thames.
